All STUCO members are required to sell 15 pilgrims for the Greater Berks Food Bank. Each pilgrim costs $1.00 and equates to $20.00 worth of food. Last year we raised over $20,000 worth of food for the food bank. This year we sold 1150 pilgrims, which equates to $23,000 worth of food for local families. This exceeded our goal and what we raised last year! Thank you to our Council members and community for your help in making this an amazing success!!
Salvation Army Angel Tree Tags:
Student Council members took and distributes 130 Angel Tree Tags this holiday season. Each tag represents a child in Berks County who is in need this year. Students purchase gifts for the child they have selected. For many of these kids, this will be the only gift they receive this Christmas. On December 20 we will be taking a bus of STUCO members to volunteer at the Salvation Army to organize, shop, and hand out gifts and meals to families. If you would like to make monetary contributions to this cause, please e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Treats for Troops:
This year, we added a new initiative to our holiday giving season. We placed a bag and list of desired items for troops overseas in each block 4 classroom. Students and staff throughout the school are encouraged to bring in items such as white socks, gum, playing cards, and lip balm by December 2. The class that brings in the most items will receive a Student Council sponsored pizza party before the holiday break. All items donated will be delivered to Philadelphia and sent to troops stationed overseas for the holidays.
**Update** As a school community we collected over 2100 items to send to troops overseas. Mrs. Crook's block 4 donated the most items, with over 220 things brought in for the drive. They will have their pizza party December 22. Thank you to a great student body for all the effort, and we look forward to another successful drive next year!
