April 17 Announcements

We hope that you and your family have had a smooth transition into the world of remote learning.  The level of student engagement and motivation through the first week of the fourth marking period has been promising and inspiring, as has the instructional innovation and supports by our school’s faculty and staff.

Please review the following important updates and announcements:

TVSD Continuity of Education Plan
The Twin Valley School District Continuity of Education Plan is available on the TVSD website.  The plan includes a list of frequently asked questions that address matters related to attendance, grading, and technology support.

Graduation and other End-of-Year Events
High school administration will be meeting with the senior class officers and other student leaders next week to review contingency plans for holding graduation and other important events such as the junior/senior prom, the local scholarship awards ceremony, and other traditional events and forms of senior recognition.  The administration and student leaders will distribute a survey to the senior class to gauge their level of interest in participating in the various options for graduation; finalized plans will be shared with the community during the week of April 27.

A message from Mrs. Uhrich, our School Nurse
Hello from Nurse Alice!  Please use these resources to help you.  I am not physically in my office but I am reachable by email.  Please understand that I am not able to diagnose or to do tele-health, but would be glad to help you locate resources.  Don't forget to eat fruits and vegetables, get fresh air, and drink plenty of water.  Take care and see you soon!

Messages for Seniors
Mr. Miller and Mrs. Miller, our senior class advisors, are planning to send out a video message to the class of 2020.  Underclassmen, teachers, parents, community members, etc. are invited to submit a picture or short video clip that includes a nice message to our senior class.  If you would like to participate, please share a photo or a short HD video clip (no more than 15 seconds) with the Google account Seniorclass2020@tvsd.info.  If it is not possible to share the file through Google Drive, it can also be sent through email.  The deadline for submissions is April 30; please limit submissions to one per person or family.  Thank you!

Tri-M Talent Show
The Twin Valley High School chapter of the Tri-M Music Honors Society is hosting its annual talent show virtually!  Anyone wishing to participate should submit a landscape video of their talent to twinvalley3m@gmail.com.  Submissions will close on April 17.  A compilation of all submitted videos will be posted to YouTube on May 1 at 7 p.m.  We look forward to showcasing the TVHS community’s many talents!

AP Exams
AP exams are scheduled for May 11 through May 22.  The College Board continues to update its AP Coronavirus Page with details regarding the schedule, the testing format, live AP review lessons, and more.

The College Board has cancelled the June test administration.  Information about new testing opportunities in the fall of 2020 is available on the SAT Coronavirus Page.

Berks PPE Network
In coordination with the newly constituted Berks PPE Resource Network, the Twin Valley High School Technology and Engineering Department faculty and Technology Student Association students are utilizing the school’s 3D printers to produce face shield brackets in response to what is currently over 4000 local requests for such devices. These devices are combined with a disposable 8.5”x11” transparency sheet to produce a complete face shield. Organizations requesting these devices include doctors’ offices, nursing homes, law enforcement, county agencies, and state agencies. The 3D printers are operating out of students’ and teachers’ homes; the devices are collected weekly and delivered to the Berks PPE Resource Network for distribution.  300 face shields and brackets were delivered this past Wednesday.  Great job Raiders!
